...hair cut...

hopefully highlight of my day...

getting my hairs cut.

non-highlight of yesterday...

thinking i was getting my hairs cut, taking a 30 minute L ride, and being wrong about the day of my appointment.

this was an especially sad moment for me, as i had discovered that myself, my sister, AND my mom had all unknowingly scheduled hair cuts for the same day. turns out i was the lame one who missed out.

oh well.

so...in less than an hour i need to decide what to do with my hairstuffs.

potential ideas

lots of layers, and keep the side-bang (which i'm currently sporting having grown out my blunt bangs)

short hair, and back to the blunt bangs

keep it long, and bring back the bangies.

i never know how i'm going to get my haircut until i'm in the seat and ready to go. but one thing i know, is that i'm going to steer clear from any haircut resembling this...

...Attention Barbara in Texas...

Hi Barbara!

I'm so glad someone else knows about the Jane Christopher recipe box, and has actually used many of the recipes! I'm still exploring myself, so I'm excited to hear about which ones were your favorites.

I would be happy to make you copies of some of the recipes, but the only problem is...I don't have any contact information from you!

Please feel free to email me at

sarahcsheets@gmail.com

and I'll start copying those recipes!!

Looking forward to hearing back from you!

...a good laugh...

Does anyone ever really like watching commercials? I mean, besides when it's superbowl time, and you can't wait to see the creative genius of companies willing to pay millions for a 30 second spot.

Well I'd like to introduce you to a couple commercials that I could watch over and over, and then over again because they are so ridiculous.

First. Purina Cat Chow. Who knew this commercial would be about cat food?

Oh my heavens. I know it's supposed to be sweet and sentimental, but I can't help but find the absolute hilarity of this story. I do think, however, that the way he decorated the cat's new room pretty bomb dot com.

Secondly, I bring to your attention the Slob-Stopper.

BAHAHAHAHA. This is just too good. There are several things to note in this excellent commercial. I would encourage you to replay, and take note of several choice moments.

1) At 2 seconds in, I just love the way that after his ENTIRE drink spills on his shirt, he continues to let all the liquid that actually made it into his mouth spill out as well.

2) At 8 seconds in, I appreciate his expression after he has spilled his second drink. He actually looks grateful for having spilt. Why?! Obviously because he's wearing the slob-stopper. Bonus: the hot chick walking by seems to love it too!

[a quick question: what happens to the liquid after it slides down the slob-stopper? this company might consider also making a full body suit stopper to avoid users walking around with wet areas around the crotch....because we all know that would be awkward.]

3) 22 seconds in, I can't get enough of the mom's facial expressions. She seems so disgusted that her child has, gasp, just entered the vehicle! And why the deuce does SHE need the slob stopper? I see no liquid involved. At all. Very confusing.

I give kudo's to whoever did the casting for that commercial. Spot on!

They are only 14.95 (plus s&h), and according to the website, a great gift.

...addendum...

Post my post on the Royal Wedding, I had several people bring to my attention additionally ridiculous Royal Wedding items. My new favorite are the fingernail decals. Nice find Kim.

The Royal Pez Machines. I could actually go for one of those. I miss pez.

Royal Baubles...or Bobbles.

Royal Sick Bags? I don't get it.

Royal Nail decals. Just so you can take Wills and Kate with you whenever you, and your fingernails might go.

...the royal wedding...

It's happening. Prince William and commoner Kate Middleton are getting married on April 29, 2011. Juuuuust around the corner; and I hear time goes by even faster when you have royal blood in your veins. Just kidding. I made that up. But it woooooould be a nifty little trick to have flowing through your bloodstream say during boring meetings, tedious workouts, and time spent watching the SPEED channel on TV*.

It seems as the date approaches, more and more, and then just when you think it can't get any worse, even MORE ridiculous memorabilia pops out of the woodwork. All for the sole purpose of celebrating the event of the "royal wedding." I don't get it. Maybe it's because I live in the United States and the whole idea of royalty is a bit distant for me (except for everything to do with the movie Princess Diaries, because I'm pretty sure I've watched that about a million times), but I just can't wrap my mind around the importance being placed on this wedding date. Whatever. It's providing me with some great fodder because TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF THIS MEMORABILIA!

Hot off the kiln, we have Prince William and Kate China!

Because who doesn't like to eat off of other people's faces? I think it's dishwasher safe, but I say why risk it?

The William and Kate T-Shirt!

My favorite part: the facial expressions and realistic farm-like setting where the wedding will take place.

The phone apps!

Attention smart-phone users, there are literally hundreds of countdown applications you can download so you're always up to date on the exact countdown to the day of nuptials. I liked the swans in this one. Very classy.

Mittens.
Coins.

Jealousy.

And my all time favorite. The Will and Kate Fridge.

You can bet that if our apartment hadn't come stocked with a normal and boring black fridge, I'd be in line to get one of these babies!

My advice to you Kate, hang in there. We all recognize that this is absurd and ridiculous.

*Disclaimer: when I'm watching the SPEED channel with Tim, it's ok.

lol dogzzz

Ever since I found out about LOL cats (which I'm pretty sure I can credit to Madeline Jacks), I've been quite fond of perusing through the pictures. I even went so far as to make Tim download an application on his iphone that allows me quick and easy access to LOL Cats.

As destiny would have it, I chanced upon LOL Dogs the other night; although I like to call them LOL Dogzzzz. Looking at LOL dogzzz pictures turned into looking at awkward pet photos, which finally translated into awkward family photos.

Enjoy some choice pics below. Warning...some might shock and disturb you. BUT....I DID confirm with Tim that these were all appropriate for the bloggo.

Gin and Titonic....

Ran across this on the internet today. Because what's more fun than reenacting a famous tragedy all in the glass of your cocktail?

holy cow

I have so much to catch up on. I've been failing a bit lately on the blogosphere. By a bit, I mean more like a relatively large morsel. Well I'm back. (and so is Britney Spears, by the way.....anyone catch her new single yet?!)

Last night after a classy evening out at the symphony (more on THAT later!), Tim and I came home to relax. By a stroke of luck, we happened across the show, Extreme Couponing on TLC. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! The people highlighted on the show were essentially addicted to procuring coupons, using tactics from dumpster diving, knocking door-to-door to get other people's unused coupons, and actually paying and ordering them online from a clipping service. It's definitely an bizzare addiction. One lady, Amanda, had 3,000 rolls of toilet paper (enough for FORTY years!); while another man had enough soap, toothpaste, and toothbrushes to last for the next SIXTY years. At least they sound hygienic, because otherwise, they're crazy.

HOWEVER, the show made me think about the potential savings that actually can be found in coupons. Joanie (on the show) racked up a grocery bill of $638.34. What she paid: $2.64!! Um...that's kind of awesome.

With a husband heading into graduate school, and upcoming move to Chicago--where rent prices are about as high as the sky-scrapers--I'm all about money-saving tricks! Any other suggestions?!

Holiday Genius

Hats off to my favorite Christmas season commercials of 2010. And no, this doesn't mean I want an Acura.

Post Modern Gingerbread Haus

The Chestnut, She's a Fickle Beast

Did you know!

Did you know that if you received all of the gifts listed in the "12 days of Christmas" song, you would come away with 364 gifts?! Here's what I want to know...why isn't it 365 gifts? How ideal would it be if you played this game and got one present every day for a year! (except for that one, sad day when there is nothing left to give.) This would be a fun experiment. I wonder what the cost of actually pulling this off would be...

I could see things adding up around the maids-a-milking. Do you know how expensive milking cows are?!

my husband is out of town.....

Tim has been enjoying life in Montrose, Colorado this week. All week. The entire week long he's been gone and I've been on my own. I miss him.

To try and take my mind off of being along allll day long (and can I also mention unemployed? There is only so much job searching one can do in a day before you start to go crazy) I've been doing things that Tim probably would have advised me against if he were here.

Examples.

I went and bought several autumnal candles. I just love them. Tim chastises me for always having candles burning in the apartment, so while he's been gone I've created an inferno of candle flames!!

Tofu. Tim hates it, I love it. Tim is typically a pretty good sport about eating whatever I cook him--I've forced him to eat brussel sprouts, all sorts of squashes, beef-less beef (a mistake), and a myriad of other strange things. Since he's gone I thought it was a perfect time to eat some bean curd. So tonight I consumed an entire dinner made of nothing BUT tofu. Somehow I think Tim is probably OK with missing out on tonight's meal...

I've also really been into quinoa lately too. I don't really know what it is, but I made it for lunch.

I broke out my guitar tonight for the first time in awhile...yikes. After spending awhile tuning that baby, I proceeded to make my fingers bleed as I attempted to play recognizable music and songs. It's probably a good thing Tim wasn't here to witness (or hear) me play.

Finally, I got a dog. I've been wanting one for a really long time, so I just went out today and got this REALLY cute yellow lab. His name is Maurice.

Just kidding.

a pregnant goldfish is called a twit. i know. weird.

Tim and I discovered a GREAT find at one of my all-time favorite stores in Santa Barbara. The store is called "Random." I can only assume that it's called this because it is a one-hundred percent accurate representation of what the store entails. This store almost defies explanation. They have everything from bootleg Asian sports jersey's to Martha Stewart wedding books.

Here is a cross section of what I have purchased from Random in the past.
- A Cake Platter
- SPY artwork
- Picture Frame
- Antique Books
- Thank-You Cards
- Dice
- Buttons
- Dept. 56 North Pole Christmas Decorations
- Used Christmas lights
- Glass Bottles
- Knives
- Extension Cords

That's a short list friends. One of the best parts of this store is that things are relatively inexpensive, and if you feel like something is overpriced, you HAGGLE. But enough about the other fabulous finds I've purchased; the point of this post is to display what was perhaps the most EPIC find of all. I'm convinced I should purchase this to incorporate in Abbey's wedding somehow.

Dino is about 12 feet tall. And look...his tail comes off! If that's not made for convenient travel.....

It's like he's BEGGING to be in the wedding!
