...flags...

Brooke Fraser is one of my all-time favorite musicians.

She has the most incredibly clear voice, and a god-given talent for writing beautiful music. She has written some great contemporary worship songs with Hillsong Church (one of the BEST: Desert Song), but she has equally awesome solo albums.

Her latest CD, Flags, is so great. I'm pretty obsessed with the following song.

I could listen to that on repeat for a long time. (In fact I have been).

If you have the time, read through the lyrics (below). They're incredible. Such a blessing to have someone using their talent for the glory of God!

Come, tell me your trouble

I'm not your answer

But I'm a listening ear

Reality has left you reeling

All facts and no feeling

No faith and all fear

I don't know why a good man will fall

While a wicked one stands

And our lives blow about

Like flags on the land

Who's at fault is not important

Good intentions lie dormant

And we're all to blame

While apathy acts like an ally

My enemy and I are one and the same

I don't know why the innocents fall

While the monsters still stand

And our lives blow about

Like flags on the land

I don't know why our words are so proud

Yet their promise soothing

And our lives blow about

Like flags in the wind

Oh oh oh oh

You who mourn will be comforted

You who hunger will hunger no more

All the last shall be first

Of this I am sure

You who weep now will laugh again

All you lonely be lonely no more

Yes, the last will be first

Of this I'm sure

I don't know why the innocents fall

While the monsters stand

I don't know why the little ones thirst

But I know the last shall be first

I know the last shall be first

I know the last shall be first

the weather is getting colder...!

"There must be quite a few things
a hot bath
won't cure--but I don't know many of them."

-Sylvia Plath

*kind of ironic when you think about Sylvia, and her life story, but I still like the quote.

Old, beautiful words...

If ever two were one, then surely we.
If ever man were loved by wife, then thee;
If ever wife was happy in a man,
Compare with me, ye women, if you can.
If prize they love more than whole mines of gold
Or all the riches the East doth hold.
My love is such that rivers cannot quench,
Nor ought but love from thee, give recompense.
Thy love is such I can no way repay,
The heavens reward thee manifold I pray.
Then while we live, in love let's so persevere,
That when we live no more, we may live ever.

Anne Bradstreet (1612-1672)

Love Words

So I've been reading through old books of poetry and simply appreciating the way other people have the gift of expressing the feeling of LOVE in words. I've tried to write poetry....I don't think it's my best skill. Thankfully, I have the opportunity to read what others have written, and written well.

For years I've keep a "quote journal," and every time I came across an inspirational, thought provoking, challenging, or beautiful quote, I would write it in the journal. I think I have quite a bit to learn from those wiser than I.

I keep reading these poems and statements and thinking about how much I love what it says, how beautifully it is written, and how I hope to remember it forever. Sadly enough, my photographic memory is on the fritz. Enter "love words," my newest brilliant idea! Enter my weekly posting of a poem or quote that puts butterflies in my stomach.

If you live to be a hundred,
I want to live to be a hundred minus one day,
so I never have to live without you.
